A high risk pregnancy means the woman or her fetus has certain health problems that might lead to deterioration in the health of either or both. Such a pregnancy places additional physical & emotional stress on the woman’s body.
There are multiple obstetric and maternal conditions which would affect the pregnancy and are leading high risk factors.
Maternal high risk factors:
Maternal age < 15 / > 35 years
3 pregnancies
Previous H/O uterine surgery, uterine rupture, fibroid surgery
Diabetes
Heart problems
Immunological conditions like Lupus
Pe eclampsia / pregnancy induced hypertension
Chronic pre existing hypertension
Recurrent pregnancy loss
Severe anemia
Previous cesarian section
H/O previous stillbirths / preterm delivieries.
Obstetric (Fetal) factors:
Placenta previa
Polyhydramnios (excessive liquour amni)
Oligo hydramnios (moderate to severe decrease in liquor)
