High Risk Pregnancy Management
A high risk pregnancy means the woman or her fetus has certain health problems that might lead to deterioration in the health of either or both. Such a pregnancy places additional physical & emotional stress on the woman’s body.
There are multiple obstetric and maternal conditions which would affect the pregnancy and are leading high risk factors.
Maternal high risk factors:
Maternal age < 15 / > 35 years
- 3 pregnancies
- Previous H/O uterine surgery, uterine rupture, fibroid surgery
- Diabetes
- Heart problems
- Immunological conditions like Lupus
- Pe eclampsia / pregnancy induced hypertension
- Chronic pre existing hypertension
- Recurrent pregnancy loss
- Severe anemia
- Previous cesarian section
- H/O previous stillbirths / preterm delivieries.
Obstetric (Fetal) factors:
- Placenta previa
- Polyhydramnios (excessive liquour amni)
- Oligo hydramnios (moderate to severe decrease in liquor)
- Rh incompatibility and sensitization
- Severe fetal growth restriction
- Multiple gestations, twins, triplets.
