High Risk Pregnancy Management

A high risk pregnancy means the woman or her fetus has certain health problems that might lead to deterioration in the health of either or both. Such a pregnancy places additional physical & emotional stress on the woman’s body.

There are multiple obstetric and maternal conditions which would affect the pregnancy and are leading high risk factors.

Maternal high risk factors:

Maternal age < 15 / > 35 years

  • 3 pregnancies
  • Previous H/O uterine surgery, uterine rupture, fibroid surgery
  • Diabetes
  • Heart problems
  • Immunological conditions like Lupus
  • Pe eclampsia / pregnancy induced hypertension
  • Chronic pre existing hypertension
  • Recurrent pregnancy loss
  • Severe anemia
  • Previous cesarian section
  • H/O previous stillbirths / preterm delivieries.

Obstetric (Fetal) factors:

  • Placenta previa
  • Polyhydramnios (excessive liquour amni)
  • Oligo hydramnios (moderate to severe decrease in liquor)
  • Rh incompatibility and sensitization
  • Severe fetal growth restriction
  • Multiple gestations, twins, triplets.
