Jaundice
Jaundice
Commonly, jaundice happens in clusters and outbreaks, due to contaminated food and water. Thus, typically it will be seen when water supply is contaminated with sewage water, but this is becoming a rarity. Else, it could be seen when a food handler in a community food source (canteen, cafeteria) could be the vector of the disease. Common jaundice could be due to unwashed hands carrying the virus to your food.
Typically, a common jaundice is due to hepatitis A and E, and a normal person will be able to get better with his own immune defense. The trouble is when the liver of the person is not normal, but the person is not aware it has been scarred. Then, the ability of the liver to recover on its own is markedly reduced, and the outcome could be bad.
But you may not find you suffering from jaundice as a part of an outbreak at your office, apartment home or school. Only a specialist would be able to identify the problem. The jaundice could be a complication of your co morbid condition (hypertension or diabetes), a late complication of a medication you could be using, or a flare of an yet unknown infection you could be carrying.
